Rachel a simple fix is to disable the ajax verification in admin. You are not the first to report this, I do not have this issue here. I guess that there is some server upgrade that is causing the problem. Could you please try to link to a more recent version of the jquery library in your guestbook page. Find the link line in the head for the jquery library in the html of your guestbook page and replace it with the snippet 1 or snipper 2 (try both) for jquery that you can find in this page: https://developers.google.com/speed/libraries/devguide

Andrea - I really need your help on this one.

When ever someone tries to post to our guestbook, they get the response: "Form processing halted for suspicious activity". There appears to be coding in the file php_guestbook.php, line 175 that says "echo 'Form processing halted for suspicious activity';". I have tried to work with this code and it just removes the captcha image. Could you please advise me how to correct this issue?

Robert I also had an hard time (I failed) setting permissions on godaddy with windows hosting. However this was a few years ago. Can't help on this one, sorry. What I did at the time was to swap to a godaddy linux hosting.

Bob, the file with the messages has grown too big. Time to archive some messages. I suggest you select a very high number of posts per page for your guestbook, so that all the posts will go in a single page. Then save this page as archive, and link it to your guestbook page. Then you can delete old messages (also by hand editing the posts.txt file) and the fatal error will be gone

By "link-backs" I was referring to the required link on the guestbook pages: "Powered by PHP Guestbook". I didn't know if a corrupt link would cause any of the problems. I did reload the links from the original download (clean). Thank you for your suggestions and assistance. As you can see from the previous post, I got it all ironed out. This software ROCKS!

I'm curious if the comments disappearing is related to the admin/configure page being set at defaults?

I believe I have corrected the problems with my guestbook. As stated earlier, I was having a problem with the page menu generated by the guestbook. The bottom menu wouldn't "sync" with the top one.

I changed my "posts per page" count so that all posts were on one page. This eliminated the generated page menus. I then deleted all page menus from the HTML in the guestbook.html document, and made a backup. I deleted page 2 and 3 of my guestbook, as those posts were now all on the first page. This corrected the page menu issue. I'm sure it happened when I uploaded the backups, and was most likely corrupt or duplicate code on my part.

The reason I could not post was my admin page had been reset to defaults. I re-entered all the data and the guestbook works great.

The issue with the posts disappearing: I discovered that for the last few weeks, the posts would all disappear any time someone tried to post a comment. I discovered this after I uploaded the last backup. It wouldn't let me post either. Maybe it was due to the admin page being reset to defaults during that time? Anyway, after I reset the admin page and got rid of the page menus, all is working flawlessly.

I really like this software. I'm sure my problems were self-inflicted and not the software. I would recommend this simple, customizable guestbook to anyone.
