I just tried to install this today to work with a custom vbpowerd page in my vbulletin.
i keep my custom pages inside the 'forum' directory and i wanted to keep the guestbook files in their own folder which happens to be above the 'forum' directory. i made sure to check the html code for relative links and change them to absolute. so far i only found that i needed to change one for the php_guestbook.php file.
i entered all the info at the admin configuration page to make sure all is correct. and after getting a few errors at first, i made a little progress and now get an error telling me that i have to have the "powered by" link.
i never removed it however! it is there and i can see it. but when i try to make my first test post, it says that i don't have it and should add it.
here's my page so you can check it out.

Dave, did you modify anything in the source code? If you set the password to pass and make a PM with the guestbook URL I will have a look.

I just installed the guestbook. I think I followed the instructions but maybe I missed a step. When I make changes to the Guestbook configuration page and hit save configuration I get a blank page. Any advise?
Thanks

Jimbob, this message is not from the script, it is from your hosting server. Try to set the guestbook and posts directories permissions to 755 instead of 777. For the files that have to be writable (see readme file) 666 should still be OK. Just a guess, not sure it will work. If it does not work, contact your hosting provider and ask which permission a directory should have so that a php script can write a file in it.

Hello Andrea,
Thanks for the quick reply yesterday. I had a look at my FTP application (FileZilla) and found where to set the permissions. Unfortunately, when I try to login to the Admin section I get the following message:
"A file permissions error has occurred running this script. Please check that the script and the directory that it's in are only writable by the site administrator. If this error persists, please contact the server administrator."
I was able to login once yesterday (my first try) but never since and I've no idea why. I've checked and re-checked all the files that need permissions set (mainfolder, posts, include/conf.php, easy_php_guestbook.html). The php_guestbook.php file is set to 644. I've tried this file set to 777 but it doesn't make any difference. Any ideas?
Thanks for your time, Andrea

Jimbob, this is usually done with your FTP client application. This read only box you refer to is probably in the control panel your host provides. To know how this works you should contact your hosting provider.

Hello,
I've just downloaded the free version (thanks for providing it) to try out but I'm already stuck on setting the permissions for the folders. How do you do this? If it means just unchecking the "read-only" box, I've tried that but when I go back into properties its checked again. Can any one help?
Many thanks,
Jimbob |

Thank you eg. To all those interested, eg at the moment detains the record of the WCS with more guestbooks implemented on a web site.
Almost 400 guestbooks!!!!!!
Be sure to pay a visit to his Web site and maybe leave a nice comment on one of the several photo galleries.

unsolicited praise for WCS and its developer. I'd like to give a 100 percent vote of confidence to the software and the developer. I've had WCS script for a while, after I figured out how to use the script, and then to format it, it took me 4 afternoons to create almost 400 (!) guestbooks.... The software is amazingly easy to use, and Andrea's support is second to none.. |

Hi Fred1) Is it possible to enable the post moderation just in some pages? For instance, if I want to have, let's say, a 'main guestbook' with comments moderation and a few others, in several sections of my site, with this function disabled - can I do it? Yes you can do that2) Is it possible to add a user URL field in the form? How? Not easily. We can do it for you for a symbolic fee3) Can I make a defaut of "make private" funtion for e-mail adresses, in order that the user's adress will never be shown? Yes, absolutely. You can easily completely block the display of e-mail in the posts, while still retaining the info in the admin section for you to view.
