Andrea, the file "verify.png" is there and it's size is 156 bytes and has permission 666. On the other site that is working the file is the same size but has permissions of 644.

Posted by AndreaFebruary 10, 2014 - 07:53 am
Steven locate or create the file "verify.png" in the guestbook folder (this is the captcha image that is overwritten each time by the script) and grant a 666 permission to it. Let me know.

Hi Andrea,
I have implemented your guestbook on two sites. One has developed a problem with the capcha image not showing up. It used to work. The other site still works They are both running the same code. Where should I be looking to try to solve this problem?

Hi Michelle try to reload just the php_guestbook.php file. and/or the configuration file (include/conf.php), but start with just the main script file.

Posted by MichelleJanuary 21, 2014 - 08:02 pm
Hi Andrea
I was saving my config in the admin section and it seemed to get stuck saving... now I cant access admin at all, just a blank page with the address /php_guestbook.php.
Guestbook doesnt work as now not displaying catchpa..
Do I reload the files? I really dont want to redesign my page but dont mind redoing the config..

Hi! Thank you Andrea for your quick response. I did overlook the permissions. Yet, I took a guess on how to change the permissions. I tried right clicking the online file name in the uploader program, selecting “properties”. Then I checked some boxes and the number underneath changed to “666”, which I remember seeing in the readme file. After that I thought everything was fine. Yet, my changes still weren’t saved! Did I try adjusting the permissions the wrong way? Thanks in advance for any responses.

Ken you probably forgot tho grant 666 permission to the configuration file. Check the readme file for details on file permission.

I get confused with anything more complicated than html. I'm trying to get this guestbook up and running but am stopped dead in my tracks because I can't get it to save my configuration changes! I spend time editing the configuration, hit save, and it returns to the main admin page without ANY of my changes saved! Did I miss an important step?

Hi Andrea, Happy New Year!

I've just updated my guestbook index.html page to update a hyperlink to another page and now I've uploaded the page to the root the page isn't working and I can't log into admin either (php_guestbook.php). Any suggestions? I've changed nothing but a text hyperlink which has nothing to do with the guestbook itself. Thanks.

hello. can messages be edited after submission?

Posted by AndreaNovember 27, 2013 - 07:07 pm
Hi do you get this with the test guestbook provided with the zip? This is the output of a javascript based antispam control, that requires some javascript on the guestbook page to be in place. If you created your own page you might have a javascript problem. Check your installation with default everyting, including the guestbook page

Hello Dele, thank you for your post, feel free to e-mail me if you need support. Best - Admin

I paid for the enhanced version after using the free version and getting over spammed - cant seem to use the ajax verification - but may email for support but its no biggie.

Just wanted to say thank you for a brilliant product which is probably undervalued.

Many Thanks

testing the guestbook

1and1 finally gave the correct permission setting steps but to no avail. I could not change anything. I believe the problem is with the server and have told them so. (Failure with ftp method is supposed to provide a clue in the ftp log but the log is empty.

Posted by C PottsJuly 26, 2013 - 02:05 pmcypotts@aol.com
1and1 sent me new directions for changing permissions, which of course did not react as claimed. However, I was able to change the main file to 777, Test message results now show that posts.txt and gbook_log.txt (which I created)are being populated, but the moderation mode comments do not get through to the guestbook page when approved, and the reserved name comment also does not get through to the guestbook page. Troubleshooting is starting but if you have any shortcut ideas they would be appreciated.

Well, 1and1 decided it would be easy for me to change the permissions and directed me to a section on my Control Panel which does not have a feature (Webspace Explorer) that they claimed it did. Nevermind, FileZilla is the recommended alternative but when I used it all the attempts came back as "command not understood". Hence, three failures from techniques that should have worked (FTP and Dreamweaver are the other two). So, I have asked them to try and change the five folders/files themselves if it's so easy. I need this software to get rid of a harrasser. Thanks for hanging in there Andrea.
