Hello again Andrea,
I thought I would follow up with you on my email issue in case someone else runs into the same issue. What you posted for me to try ( @server_domain_name) didn't work but it did get me on the right track. After testing different ways I finally just entered localhost in the from field and bingo! it worked!!!! I really appreciate all you do for all of us in getting things working like they should. Thank you for the quick response Andrea. Yes I entirely control the server. It is through XAMMP which uses APACHE not a windows server. I am more concerned about getting the email going so I will test using a couple different addresses, at least then I can set the email to pop up when I recieve a new notification.

Thank you again Andrea.

You can indeed change the date format by editing the include/mixvar.php file, the date variable. If you are not familiar with PHP dont't worry, just google "php date format" and you will find plenty of information. Before editing make sure you bakup the file just in case..

concerning the e-mail, you should look at your server configuration. Do I have it right that you entirely control the server? Or are you on a hosted setup? Basically a common setting for servers is that you can only send mails if the FROM field contains an address @server_domain_name. For instance if your server serves duck.com, you can only send e-mails from a @duck.com address. Also, your server logs should help in clarifying if the e-mail is sent or not. Finally, some filter could be in place on the receiving side that stops your messages. Try sending TO a different address and check your FROM address. These are the guestbook e-mail (FROM) and admin e-mail (TO) fields in configuration.
Concerning the ajax, I can only speculate it is related to your windows server setup. Unfortunately I cannot help here, sorry about that.
I see how with the captcha alone, you can still get spam through, the guestbook is basically a rock with both systems active, or even ajax alone as I have here, but captcha alone is somehow weak because OCR technologies are getting better.
Indeed moderation gives you the opportunity to block all spam from showing, but still gives you some work in reviewing and deleting messages. The recent feature of bulk deleting messages should help you here, not sure if your current version has this feature, otherwise e-mail me and I will send you the last version.
Your server logs should/could help you with both the e-mail and the ajax problem, I suggest you have a look there.
Hope this helps.

One other note. I installed the new raw version entirely into a new guestbook folder, (Renamed my guestbook temp) made sure permissions were set and tested it with no modifications other than setting the config file with site and email etc... Still would not send email or get past Ajax.

Hi Andrea. I have been using your free guestbook for well over a year now and for the most part it has been great and I really appreciate what you did with it. Just a couple days ago I purchased the enhanced version hoping it would help solve the couple problems I'm having, but unfortunately the results are the same.
First the email has never worked even tho I have the proper address in the config file.
Second the Ajax Verification has never worked for me and even with the new version it still doesn't.
I run the program on a seperate computer using XAMPP Control panel as my server using Windows 7. I have given the entire drive being used for my website and guestbook read and write permission. I verified all folders contained within also have the rights.

I have been overrun with spambots and at least with the enhanced version I can now view posts before posting, but this will, as you know stop people from seeing their post until i can get home and review them.

Everything thing else has worked great, even captchas and i really Love the guestbook. Even if we can't get it sorted I will still continue to use it as it is.
Here is my guestbook: http://eaglesnest.dyndns.biz/guestbook/guestbook.html

Any help would be much appreciated.
Jerry

Well I solved the problem, it was something with the code I needed to put in the template file, somehow it got missing, lol.

One question still. Is it possible to change the date format in the posts?

Posted by sterredagJuly 30, 2012 - 08:43 am
That explains what you ment by checking the JS. My problem is, I can't leave the guestbook.html file alone, because I work with a .php website that works with templates.

The guestbookpage must therefore be a .php file because it needs to include the websites template also and must fit in my DIV's.

It took a lot of work to transfer the correct coding from the guestbook.html to the correct .php file at my website.

I transfered the Head /Head code to the template file and the body code to the .php file, that worked fine. I don't know why it just doesn't work anymore, but then maybe I do need to start all over again to figure it out. It's just a shame that there is no instruction on how to implement the guestbook.html to a .php template / div's website. I did just test the clean guestbook.html at my webspace that seemed to work.

I just still wonder what could trigger the message of suspisious activity, what does this guestbook see as suspicious activity? Is there a file where I can read the conditions of the message suspicious activity?

Posted by AndreaJuly 30, 2012 - 08:07 am
Sterredag, a page called guestbook.html is provided with the download. This contains some JS that is needed for the guestbook to work properly. When implementig your own guestbook page, I generally recommend to start from guestbook.html, so that all the required JS is there and you don't have to copy paste. Instead, you leave the JS alone and edit the rest, to turn guestbook.html into your own page.
So now, I am not sure which problem you are having. To test if it is a JS problem, you can temporarily replace your guestbook page with the provided guestbook.html, as it is. If the provided page works well, then you can work on your own page and try to "fix" it. If everything works with the provided, default guestbook.html page, then there must be a problem in the code, possibly the JS, of your own customized page.
Is this helping somehow? Best - Admin

Hi, after receiving this answer: Double check your page JS, ... I asked how I would do that. I never ever touched any JS stuff on my website.
Unfortunatly I didn't get an answer to this question. Could someone please help me with this?
Note: JS can't be written in full, because when posting it still gives an error message

John, I do not recommend the script for 10000 pages. I would say it is fine in the tenths or hundreds range, not thousands.

Posted by JohnJuly 15, 2012 - 08:40 am
Does this script need to be configured for every page? I have a 10000 page website. Will it maintain separate comments for each page?

Problem solved
This may be helpful if others receive the same problem

Form processing halted for suspicious activity

I executed the guestbook from one of my other network computers and added a record without a problem. Went back to my laptop and problem was corrected
Many Thanks

Steve short answer is no. If you always get this error, then you have a problem in the page javascript. On some rare instances, it can result from particular configurations of internet explorer. The ajax validation mechanism relies on cookies being accepted, also. Hope this helps.

Thanks Andrea

Another question
Form processing halted for suspicious activity

Can this error occur as a result of making numerous entries from one location
Thanks again
Steve

Steve, you can indeed for example replace the posts file with one that you create, as long as the format is correct (including the post id field). Hope this answers your question.

Posted by SteveJuly 11, 2012 - 06:34 amsteve@ussperry.com
can I import a guest file if I follow the controls of the post.txt file such as post_id:1;name:Chet Kozlowski;email: etc
Thanks

I found out the error message I get while posting here. It just seems when I write JS. full I can't post a message. Weird?

Posted by sterredagJuly 03, 2012 - 05:51 am
Hi Andrea,

I could try to make the page all over again, but that is a lot of work, because I needed to integrate it in my div, php, template website. Besides that, what, how, where do I need to check with my page JS???
