    Hello Andrea,

Thanks for the quick reply yesterday. I had a look at my FTP application (FileZilla) and found where to set the permissions. Unfortunately, when I try to login to the Admin section I get the following message:

"A file permissions error has occurred running this script.
Please check that the script and the directory that it's in are only writable by the site administrator.
If this error persists, please contact the server administrator."

I was able to login once yesterday (my first try) but never since and I've no idea why. I've checked and re-checked all the files that need permissions set (mainfolder, posts, include/conf.php, easy_php_guestbook.html). The php_guestbook.php file is set to 644. I've tried this file set to 777 but it doesn't make any difference. Any ideas?

    Thanks for your time, Andrea

    Jimbob

Jimbob, this is usually done with your FTP client application. This read only box you refer to is probably in the control panel your host provides. To know how this works you should contact your hosting provider.

    Hello,

I've just downloaded the free version (thanks for providing it) to try out but I'm already stuck on setting the permissions for the folders. How do you do this? If it means just unchecking the "read-only" box, I've tried that but when I go back into properties its checked again. Can any one help?

    Many thanks,

    Jimbob

Thank you eg. To all those interested, eg at the moment detains the record of the WCS with more guestbooks implemented on a web site.

    Almost 400 guestbooks!!!!!!

Be sure to pay a visit to his Web site and maybe leave a nice comment on one of the several photo galleries.

unsolicited praise for WCS and its developer.
I'd like to give a 100 percent vote of confidence to the software and the developer.
I've had WCS script for a while, after I figured out how to use the script, and then to format it, it took me 4 afternoons to create almost 400 (!) guestbooks....
The software is amazingly easy to use, and Andrea's support is second to none..

    Hi Fred
    1) Is it possible to enable the post moderation just in some pages? For instance, if I want to have, let's say, a 'main guestbook' with comments moderation and a few others, in several sections of my site, with this function disabled - can I do it?
    Yes you can do that
    2) Is it possible to add a user URL field in the form? How?
Not easily. We can do it for you for a symbolic fee
    3) Can I make a defaut of "make private" funtion for e-mail adresses, in order that the user's adress will never be shown?
Yes, absolutely. You can easily completely block the display of e-mail in the posts, while still retaining the info in the admin section for you to view.

Legion, again, you do not have the buttons in the WCS and yes, you can turn captcha verification off in admin, although this is not a good idea because of the spam.

    Ok, seriously

    last question

Can I turn off the "are you a human" thing, so it doesn't have to continually verify that you are a human?

    Posted by LegionApril 09, 2008 - 10:22 pmlegion-of-angels@hotmail.com
    Alright

    Final Question I believe.

Can I remove the buttons then with a simple option in the Admin CP of this?

If not, what do I have to do to remove them, since I will not want HTML being posted in the comments.

Legion, The icons are in the template of the free version and the enhanced version, this is why you find them around in other people installations. They work by inserting html code in the page. So if you do not want html, you cannot use them. BBcode is nice and we might indeed implement this in the future. Not supported at the moment though.

You can indeed block html by using the badwords list, most tags are banned by default in our distributions anyway.

My suggestion is to download the free version and try to add posting to a page, to see if this works for you. If it works, then get the WCS.

One last thing on these icons here.

vBulletin forums use BB code to convert HTML into BB code so that you can do:

    Bold, Italic, Underline, etc, etc.

Have you ever thought of trying to integrate this product with vBulletin? You might be able to sell this to them as well, if you could convert your buttons to do bb code rather than HTML which is what it looks like they are.

    Hello,

I'm betting if we use this:

    http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?p=1486991#post1486991

The code that member suggested, I bet it will work with your product or script here.

I'm confused on the icons. Your saying they don't come with this? Do they come with any of the versions, because it seems that in a lot of the examples of the other uses they have the buttons. Very good on the png's, and I can make the images, so I wouldn't need them made for me, I would just want them on my product.

IT does depend though, I don't want this text box I'm typing in now to allow HTML. Or I run the risk of having normal members or any strangers posting html or broken html and it could ruin the system. So I can't allow html in these things and if those buttons are html code, then we are going to forget the button options and just go basic.

WOOHOO!! That is exactly what I meant and exactly what I wanted to do. It works perfectly to, where the Tetris Page has comments on Tetris and the other pages have comments on there respective games.

weet. Still haven't tested the News Archive yet, will still get to that. Let me know on the icons please and we'll go from there.

    Thanks

    Legion,

    - The icons: the icons are not included as a feature of the WCS posting form automatically generated by the guestbook manager in administration. However we could probably do some custom work to add them for you, it is not a big deal. You would be indeed able to use any image you like, gif, jpg, png. It's just a matter of changing the images adresses in the code.

The styling: if you know how to use styles, you can do everything. If the v-bulletin styles are in a file, you can import the CSS easily. This is only a part of the game: you then have to use the styles in the page. So in short: if you can build an html page that uses the v-bulletin stlyles, you can then indeed plugin the wcs. These are 2 distinct problems though.

Concerning the games pages, have a look here: Online games. The comnments in all the games pages are managed with the WCS. Sample page: Tetris. Not sure if this is the kind of thing you had in mind. Keep me posted!

Thank you so much for your prompt response.

I didn't hear your answer on the buttons above. I seen in the examples you have that someone changed the images, but can I also change there file type to PNG?

I am concerned about the styling, As I see you use orange headers with an orange bg, I wonder if we can add a code to pull the style information from the templates of vbulletin. I bet we can, so not a big deal here. Even if we can't I've seen others use this and alter there bg's to fit with there page, so that might be good enough. As long as we have some customization options thats good.

Working on the News Archive is good, but not necessary. I will test that and get back to you.

The Games section though will all be individual pages, created by me, and I have to have that work as it's the main reason I found this place or the reason I'm looking for this.

To make completely clear though, if I add the comment script to each individual page with the games on them, it will act like independent comment sections and not ONE BIG ONE that's interconnected. Right? Because I want individual comment sections, NOT interconnection or if I post saying "this game is lame" I want it only on the lone page I put that on, not on every single page with the comment script.

I hope you understand what I was saying there.

Please let me know, very excited to have found this.
