| Herman, I had this same problem earlier... You have to change the permissions on the file where the guestbook is located to '666' |

Hi Andrea, My host only lets me set permissions to 770 or 660, 9not 777 or 666) - however, everything seems to work correctly, except that when I post a test message I don't receive an email confirmation. I have set up the correct email address! Any ideas please.
Apart from this slight problem it is an excellent guest book, just what I've been looking for for ages!

Bryan,
I think in every webmaster career comes a time when you realise that your basic and maybe free hosting is not enough anymore. At a certain moment you start needing/wanting dynamic features that can only obrained with cgi or php scripts. Maybe the time has come for you to seek a webhost that supports scripting languages.
If you send me an e-mail I can point you to an extremely cheap yet full featured linux hosting service. This is the one I use for this site. Just drop me a line or a PM and I'll be back to you by e-mail.
The alternative that you have is to get an 'hosted' guestbook service. However my experience is that you run the risk of loosing your pages if the service goes out of business. Not so if you host and manage your own script on your own server.
Feel free to contact me at any time for any tips or suggestions.

Bryan, the server offers to download the page instead of executing the code. This means tha your server is not configured to run PHP scripts at the moment. I suggest you contact your web host to enquire on how to turn on PHP for your account.
Keep me posted!

Bryan,
The permissions are set with your ftp program or file manager. Once you have set the permissions, login and set the guestook url and filename and your e-mail address. Read the readmefile, lots of info in there.
Feel free to post more for further help.
