OK I fixed it. The config.php file had permission set at 640. I changed the permissions to 666. was able to change the password. OK well it seems to be working ok for now.

Now I have to (tweek) incorporate the easy_php_guestbook code into my own html file to match my site's content, color & style. I have my own css style and I hope the script does not freak out when it meets my other java scripts, CSS menu and flash incorperated in my site. Gonna take a break now and have dinner, then I will be back here later tonight to work on it more. Thanks so much for your times.if you find any MP3's you would like to download from my site just let me know and I will hook you up. All songs are written and preformed by yours truly.

After a few days of testing, and if everything is compatible I will still donate for the enhanced version.

Don't know what lind of music you like, but Let me know if you find a song or two that you like from my site ok?.

*CHEERS*
Nelson~

Nelson this is weird indeed. You can download the config.php file, open in a source code editor, modify the password manually, re-upload, set/verify permission.
By the way are you sure that right now the permission for the config file is 666?

Posted by NelsonFebruary 23, 2010 - 05:39 pm
Yeah it's fixed. Now have another problem.

However after logging into the admin it will not allow me to change the password??????

And YES I clicked the save configuration button.

Attempted in Firefox and IE8 to no avail.

Please advise.........

I think it's working now, care to verify?

http://www.nelson-rogers.com/guestbook/easy_php_guestbook.html

However after logging into the admin and changing the password, the changes do not take effect after clicking the
[SAVE CONFIGURATION] button.

??????????????????????

Nelson, looks like you fixed it. Feel free to make a donation now . Just kidding.
Cheers-Admin

Nelson, yes, login to admin.html, go to configuration.
Concerning the permission, as things stand now the script cannot write to the html page. So I would:
- triple check the permission again. If it is indeed 666 then:
- try a 644 permission instead of 666 for this file (shot in the dark). If this fails, try again with 666 . If all of this is useless:
- contact your provider and ask if there is some server configuration that prevents scripts to write to html files.

Let me know.

Yes positive the easy_php_guestbook.html has permissions set at 666. I hope I can change the name of easy_php_guestbook.html to index.html later on, as the directory is already named guestbook.

Also when you said the password can be changed in admin, in the configuration section, are you refering to the admin.html? or??

Nelson, I suggest you do not make a donation until you have fixed the problems with the current installation. You will have exactly the same issues with the enhanced. Regards-Admin

Also I have no problem making a donation, however I will have to transfer funds to my paypal and I think they hold it for 5 days. Currentl there is only 2.98 in my account lol I think you will need more than that lol. I normally use perl scripts for this kinda thing but my perl script was getting hit by spam bots, so that is why I am looking for a spam proof guestbook to replace my old one with.

Posted by AndreaFebruary 23, 2010 - 04:38 pm
Nelson, so you are positive that your easy_php_guestbook.html has 666 permission? If not, then it appears that despite the permission, the script cannot write to the page. Everything else looks fine, the messages are logged as you can see by logging in to admin.html and going to edit/delete. The password can be changed in admin, in the configuration section. Let me know.

Nelson, the links are now ok, thanks again for your input. Will add new links soon. Cheers

Posted by NelsonFebruary 23, 2010 - 04:27 pm
No all file permissions were set correctly per the readme file

Posted by NelsonFebruary 23, 2010 - 04:25 pm
Also where do I set my admin password?

Posted by AndreaFebruary 23, 2010 - 04:22 pm
Nelson you are right about the links. I did not check them for a very long time now and a few are not there anymore. Time for an update, thanks for pointing this out.

Posted by AndreaFebruary 23, 2010 - 04:20 pm
Nelson you possibly forgot to grant 666 permission to the guetbook html page. Do so and then make a new post. Let me know.
Regards Admin

Also most of those links in the upper right corner no longer exist!

Posted by NelsonFebruary 23, 2010 - 04:11 pm
I have already installed the free version.

Ok Andrea, check mine out here and tell if something is wrong?
http://www.nelson-rogers.com/guestbook/easy_php_guestbook.html

Upon testing I see No entry?

Hi Nelson, this very guestbook is a demo, and all the guestbooks in the upper-right part of this page are installations of this software, mostly of the free version. You can download the free version and use that. If you need the additional features of the enhanced (pagination, reserved name for admin, no link to us in the guestbook static pages etc..) you can consider a donation later on.

I always encourage users to start with the free version, it is a full featured application, not a demo, perfectly suitable to add comments to an existing web page, or to create a guestbook ex-novo. Many people will be and actually are happy with this one. Consider avoiding a donation
