Michael, I suggest you go for a different software

Posted by MichaelOctober 21, 2011 - 01:07 pmbachaas@yahoo.com
I also have not wasting my time manually re configuring the system. I mean we are supposed to be logging into the configuration UI. That's where we are supposed to configure from so lets shoot for that.

Posted by MichaelOctober 21, 2011 - 01:01 pmbachaas@yahoo.com
also are you sure your getting a 404 error, because I continue to get a 403 error?

Posted by MichaelOctober 21, 2011 - 12:17 pmbachaas@yahoo.com
you might try looking at the script your distributing, that's where I think the problem is but what do I know.

Posted by MichaelOctober 21, 2011 - 12:15 pmbachaas@yahoo.com
I of course have already done that, but like unplugging the computer and waiting for 24 hours for it work when it won't turn on. I did it again to satisfy you, I even redownloaded the zip for about the 4th time and still get the same error.

What now, just move on?

Posted by AndreaOctober 21, 2011 - 11:14 am
Michael, strangely enough on clicking the configure tab in admin, I get a non existing 404 error.
I suggest you start over with installation. Clear all the file, re-upload, grant permissions, log in to admin and check if you can have the configuration section display correctly.

Please double check that the guestbook html file has 666 permission. If you want, reset your password to the default "pass" and send me your guestbook link in a private message, so that I can check it out.

by posted I mean they are not being called.

Posted by MichaelOctober 21, 2011 - 09:42 ambachaas@yahoo.com
when I talk about the script in detail the message is banned. but please assume that I have read the manual. i have done all that has been said and my config link is not working, the posts files are being created, and not being posted to the guestbook.html

Posted by AndreaOctober 21, 2011 - 09:12 am
Michael, for the permissions you should refer to the readme file. Basically it is either 777 or 755 for the directories, and 666 for some of the files including the guestbook page itself. Have a look at the manual/readme file. 777 for all files is not correct.

Posted by MichaelOctober 21, 2011 - 12:13 ambachaas@yahoo.com
"The permissions on all the files and directories are at 777 atm, just until I get it working properly."

I just wanted to get it working, no mention of customization, gotta get it working first, kind of like I won't leave all permissions at 777, but its a good place to start. if it works I'll upgrade to the enhanced version.

I found other packages but this appears to be the one I want.

cool

Posted by AndreaOctober 19, 2011 - 06:48 pm
Michael, the software is supported, in that if you have installation problems you will get help until the thing works or you get a refund. Mind that support does not include customization. Hope this answers your question.

Posted by MichaelOctober 19, 2011 - 06:00 pm
I have been directed to this page for support, I am interested in donating and getting the enhanced version, from what I can tell this system is a bargain at $10.00. However, I'm not interested in a system that isn't supported. Don't bother responding to my question below, I am off to greener pastures.

I have installed all files under mydomain.com/guestbook/

I have made the appropriate adjustments in the config file under mydomain.com/guestbook/inlude/ directory.

when I navigate to mydomain.com/guestbook/ I get a form asking for the password "pass" with no quotation marks. I then get a page that offers to give me access to:

Admin home | Configure | Edit/Delete | Pending | Guestbook | Check for updates | Logout

The permissions on all the files and directories are at 777 atm, just until I get it working properly. I currently generate a 403 server error if I try to access the config link, and if I go to the guestbook it will allow me to create post, when I use the Edit/Delete link I can look at them, unfortunately they do not show up on the guestbook. Please help.

Flemming many thanks for the info, glad it worked!

Hey Andrea. I use FlashFXP and if i am setting transfer mode to binary, its work fine. Thanks for fast answer

Posted by AndreaOctober 18, 2011 - 06:31 pm
Flemming, this is a known issue in some environments. Please reload the php_guestbook.php file only, but select manually the ftp upload mode, instead of leaving automatic detection of file type. You should tell the ftp program to upload the file as text file, as opposed to bin. You will probably have to dig a bit in the options of your ftp client to find this.
Feel free to e-mail me if you have further issue.

Just bought wcs, but it is not working. When it loads php_guestbook.php it only display a blank site. When i use the free guestbook, everything work fine. Free guestbook contains 75 files, but wcs has only 52 files. I this correct?

Don I appreciate your feedback. You got some good points. Concerning the examples to the right, they are selected manually and indeed, as with most (or maybe many) URLs, they change in time or the pages are taken off. I periodically do a check, and it's been a while I don't do it. Will do :)
Concerning "what is the page and what is the guestbook", the thing is, this guestbook, unlike other guestbook scripts, allows users to turn THEIR own web pages into guestbooks, by adding a little code to the page. This is maybe why you cannot distinguish "the pages" from "the guestbook". Thanks again for taking the time to comment. Best - Andrea

The script is not working for me. What information do I need to change in the php script file(s) to get it to work. Thanks. Bedford
