Cobus, the permission requirements could be different on the two sites. For instance one might require folder permissions 777 and the other 755.

If the site that does not work uses 777 permission for the foders, try 755 instead.

Liz, you can do this by getting the WCS version of the script.

Thanks for your reply. I was able to get in after using the correct password. I probably will step up to the enhanced version as I would like to stay within the same site.
    Thanks again.

Hedwig, so what happens exactly when you try to access admin?

One thing you can try is to open the include/conf.php file with pspad (or another dedicated source code editor) and configure manually, however not being able to access admin is indeed a strong limitation.

Let me know what happens exactly when you try to access admin. Post a PM with the URL is you wish.

I just installed the free PHP guestbook. When trying to access the admin, it does not accept my password - so the program does not let me in. Please advice. The only thing I would like to change is the redirection after posts are made. I want the user to stay on my site.
    Thanks

    Hi Troy,

Your question was how do I upgrade to the enhanced version while preserving the current setup.

    Here's what you can do:

    - Before you do anything, it is a good idea to make a full backup of your guestbook folder, on your server or locally on your PC

    - Save your current posts template (copy from configuration in admin) in a text file

    - from the enhanced version zip, replace entirely the "include" folder and the php_guestbook.php file on your server. The best way to do this is to rename the current include folder to include_bck, rename the current php_guestbook.php file to php_guestbook_bck.php, upload the new include folder and the new php_guestbook.php file from the enhanced version zip. This way, if you screw up something you can always restore the old folders by renaming them back.

    - grant include/conf.php 666 permission (as you did on the free version install)

    - login to admin, go to configuration, re-set the main variables (admin password, guestbook name and URL, e-mail addresses, posts template) to the correct values. Save configuration

If everything is done correctly, you are now upgraded to the enhanced version while preserving your guestbook html page, previous posts and posts template from your previous free version.

Give it a go and let me know if you run into any problem.

I have customized the appearance of the guestbook to fit the look of my website. How do I upgrade to a higher version and keep everything in tact?
