Steven thanks for the update, most useful

Andrea,
I determined that I was exceeding my memory limit on the server when trying to load the geoip file. I disabled the geoip feature and now it is working.
Thanks

Steven try to re-upload just the php_guestbook.php file to the server, could have get corrupted.

The fresh install with default files takes like 3 minutes, if the above fails, try that in a test directory.

Let me know

Andrea,
I have not done a fresh install yet but what I have noticed is that whenever I try to do anything like log into the admin section, it comes back saying php_guestbook.php is unavailable. That would explain why the captcha image is not showing up. When I run the same setup on localhost, the image shows up after a second or two delay. I have check all my permissions and they are correct.

Not sure what the problem could be. I would maybe try a fresh install ex novo and see what it gives on the "bad" server.

I deleted verify.png and it is not recreated with either 777 or 755 permissions on the diredtory. I ran a "phpinfo" and in the GD section I got:
GD Support enabled
GD Version bundled (2.0.34 compatible)

Posted by AndreaFebruary 10, 2014 - 11:34 am
Steven on the site that is working, the file was generated by the script, therefore 644 is fine. On the site that is not working, try to delete verify.png and to grant a 777 (also try 755) permission to the guestbook folder itself. See if the file is re created by the script as it should.
If not, are you sure you have the GD image library active on your php installation on the server?

Posted by Steven TaylorFebruary 10, 2014 - 11:28 am
Andrea, the file "verify.png" is there and it's size is 156 bytes and has permission 666. On the other site that is working the file is the same size but has permissions of 644.

Posted by AndreaFebruary 10, 2014 - 07:53 am
Steven locate or create the file "verify.png" in the guestbook folder (this is the captcha image that is overwritten each time by the script) and grant a 666 permission to it. Let me know.

Hi Andrea,
I have implemented your guestbook on two sites. One has developed a problem with the capcha image not showing up. It used to work. The other site still works They are both running the same code. Where should I be looking to try to solve this problem?
Thanks

Hi Michelle try to reload just the php_guestbook.php file. and/or the configuration file (include/conf.php), but start with just the main script file.

Posted by MichelleJanuary 21, 2014 - 08:02 pm
Hi Andrea
I was saving my config in the admin section and it seemed to get stuck saving... now I cant access admin at all, just a blank page with the address /php_guestbook.php.
Guestbook doesnt work as now not displaying catchpa..
Do I reload the files? I really dont want to redesign my page but dont mind redoing the config..

Hi! Thank you Andrea for your quick response. I did overlook the permissions. Yet, I took a guess on how to change the permissions. I tried right clicking the online file name in the uploader program, selecting “properties”. Then I checked some boxes and the number underneath changed to “666”, which I remember seeing in the readme file. After that I thought everything was fine. Yet, my changes still weren’t saved! Did I try adjusting the permissions the wrong way? Thanks in advance for any responses.

Posted by AndreaJanuary 09, 2014 - 01:06 pm
Ken you probably forgot tho grant 666 permission to the configuration file. Check the readme file for details on file permission.

I get confused with anything more complicated than html. I'm trying to get this guestbook up and running but am stopped dead in my tracks because I can't get it to save my configuration changes! I spend time editing the configuration, hit save, and it returns to the main admin page without ANY of my changes saved! Did I miss an important step?

Hi Andrea, Happy New Year!

I've just updated my guestbook index.html page to update a hyperlink to another page and now I've uploaded the page to the root the page isn't working and I can't log into admin either (php_guestbook.php). Any suggestions? I've changed nothing but a text hyperlink which has nothing to do with the guestbook itself. Thanks.
