Hello Bob, I am not familiar with dreamweaver. I found this:
http://www.365discoveries.com/2008/04/how-to-change-file-permissions-with-dreamweaver-chmod/
hope it helps. Otherwise you can use a different ftp program such as filezilla to chage the permissions. If you have a cpanel account, you can change persmissions through cpanel.

My server is UNIX based and I am using Dreamweaver. Question: How do I set permissions in the various files?
Thanks

Hello Frank, sent you an e-mail, it's easy to do.

I would like to have the email notifications of new posts to the guestbook go to two people. Where would be the best place and method of adding the second email address in the PHP code?

Posted by AndreaApril 10, 2013 - 04:50 pm
John, check out your guestbook page source code and delete the posts manually. Most likely they ended up OUTSIDE the comment start-comments end lines, this is why they are now "permanent"

There are four test posts when I first started the guestbook that I cannot delete. How can i get round this.

Posted by AndreaApril 10, 2013 - 01:38 am
Larry, you could try to just replace the configuration file with the original one from the zip and start over with configuration.

when I finished all the first admin tasks and clicked submit I got a page indicating "saving" but it never went away. The main page is still there but the capcha is broken and I get HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error)
I can start over but not sure what to fix.
my host provides MySQL PHP 5.3

Patrick, check out your guestbook URL in configuration

Dear Andrea,

All seems to work in the enhanced Guestbook, until I try to post an email. I get re-directed to 1and1 web site with a 404 error.

I have seen a reference somewhere in posts in your guestbook, but could not find again. Is there a search function in your guestbook posts?

Patrick

What is the lasest version of the Enhanced Version of the guestbook?

Posted by Brenda HApril 04, 2013 - 01:14 am
Rats - really meant to make my email private - can some good soul at cellbiol take care of that for me?

Posted by Brenda HApril 04, 2013 - 01:12 amenewt@newtlink.net
Using the free version, have captcha and ajax both checked. Last two weeks getting bombarded with spam posts. Sad, this is a memorial page. I have followed the recommendation of adding "href" and "http" to the forbidden strings.

There is no user name, just a password

Posted by Stupid MeApril 02, 2013 - 11:28 pm
Hmm. It was the password I thought it was. I cannot access the admin page? how do I check the admin user name? Maybe I changed it.

Posted by AndreaApril 02, 2013 - 06:13 pm
You can read your conf file on the server, include/conf.php, there is the password

Posted by Stupid MeApril 02, 2013 - 06:08 pm
Stupid me forgot the username and password to my admin account now I cannot access :( is there a way to reset on back end?

Thomas I do not have a more protected version. If your spam contains links, I suggest you have a look at my previous post. Blocking IPs will not work, IP will change. Blocking countries could be effective instead. I suggest you turn on geoip and use it.

I am bombarded now with spam. Adding the IP for exclusion did not help. I ask the same question as the others do you have a more protected version. Please advice.

Webmaster

testing links CNN

Thank you very much dave. I am starting to hear a few reports about spam getting through. I have not really seen any here, and I am using the version currently distributed. I am not using the captcha, just the ajax security option. Will monitor the situation to see if action is required.

I remind everyone that a simple and effective way to stop a spam flood, is to temporarily block the posting of links, by adding for example "href" and/or "http" to the list of forbidden strings or HTML tags in admin/configuration, and to use the geoip feature to temporarily block a country, if required. I did not need to do that here for now.

Again, the situation is being monitored and we are ready to take action should it turn out that the ajax security is not working. However if this was the case, we should start to see some spam here, which we did not up to now.

It could be worth reminding that the anti-spam features are exactly the same in the free and enhanced versions. The only difference is that in the enhanced version you can turn on posts moderation.

To all users, thanks for reporting if you experience any spam problem so that we can take care of it.

Best - Admin

We are the same as Roland and have been getting a lot of spam in the last few days with the free version.

We have now upgraded to the enhanced version to authorise the post prior to allowing them to be viewed.

On my own site we have the option to have a question to be answered before registration etc, maybe that could also be an option if you new capture-free solution is not so successful.

It's good software though and $10 is a cheap price to pay for what it is.

Thanks & Regards

Dave

Spam control is the same in the free and enhanced versions. There is a lot you can do by using the forbidden strings feature. Also, the geoip feature and country blocking can help a lot sometimes.

Posted by AndreaMarch 30, 2013 - 06:44 pm
Roland, you can easily block the posting of links for example by adding href to the list of forbidden html tags in the web admin/configuration.
